Neil Nayar is a wondering wanderer, Musician in Residence at Church Farm, Ardeley. since July, but about to take to the road again in the new year.

He’s a deep thinking absurdist singer-songwriter who recently released his debut album ‘Pencil Songs‘, which “is clever, quirky, funny, and challenges the system like only a man with his guitar can.” (musicreviewunsigned)

The album includes crowd favourites like ‘Tesco Song‘ from when he got thrown out from and banned from Tesco on the Cowley Road in Oxford for taking a photo, and ‘Pencil Song‘, the romantic biography of a pencil, that show off Neil’s witty side. It also has the warm and emotional ‘Poet’s Daughter‘ and the powerful and dark ‘Doors on the Shores‘, written on returning to London after a 5 month epic overland adventure through West Africa in search of music and inspiration – which it seems was found.

Some people don’t get where he’s coming from, but his reluctance to explain himself, and willingness to let the world see merely a fool if they wish to, is a refreshing standpoint among today’s highly polished and postured music scene.

Neil left London for a farm in Hertfordhire having found the urban music scene a bit lacking.  For a detailed acount of the reason for the move listen to ‘Land Song‘.

Since July Neil performed on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the farm pub, with the farm band who include Leanne, Jeff, Dave, Sam, Ryan, Lucy, Will, Georgia who play violin, bass, drums, melodica when not harvesting vegetables or looking after the animals on the farm.

A Dylanesque addage that inspires this musical concept goes that “when there’s music on the farms, there will be revolution in the air.”

But now he’s ready to take to the open road armed only with guitar, voice and songs.

Neil has been writing and performing music for nearly fifteen years, plays regularly and tries to inspire as many people as possible into discovering the delights of music. The songs are written from real experiences and are produced in as honest a way as is possible.
